Nigeria’s non-oil exports reached $6.1 billion in 2025, the highest formally documented figure in the country’s history and an 11.5 percent increase on the previous year, according to the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, as reported by Vanguard and detailed by NEPC.
Export volumes rose to just over eight million metric tonnes across 281 products, with buyers spread across Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and Oceania. The Netherlands led destinations, and the African footprint alone covered 36 countries, including eleven in ECOWAS.
The new year has started faster still: first-quarter 2026 exports climbed roughly 39 percent year on year to about $926 million, with export container volumes nearly doubling from 9,722 to over 19,000 boxes, per figures reported by TV360 Nigeria.
What it means for shippers
The export lane out of Nigeria is getting busier, and busier lanes mean tighter vessel space and stricter documentation queues. Producers considering export should move while the tailwind holds: with NXP, certificates of origin and NAFDAC or NAQS clearances prepared early, your consignment joins the record rather than the queue. Our export desk handles that documentation end to end.
